Q & A with Exchange Fitness

Who knew that working out could be so…relaxing?! Well, at Exchange Fitness, what with their 2700 square foot space including a massage therapy room and a waiting area for your convenience, they make losing that last ten pounds as easy as 1, 2, 3. Intrigued?! Well then read on ‘cause we got Brent Campbell of Fitness Exchange to tell us more!

So, give us the lowdown on Exchange Fitness.
Our focus is fitness, health and wellness. We have small group fitness classes – boot camp adult functional fitness, recreational sport conditioning, yoga, zumba dance, personal training, core abdominal, team training and nutritional workshops.

I feel more fit just hearing about all your programs! When did you open?

We opened November 16, 2009

And what makes Exchange Fitness so unique?

Our group classes are limited in size so that individuals can receive individual attention and exercise modifications, while at the same time experience the social dynamics of group fitness – support, friendship, and sometimes even a little competition to help push each other.

What’s new pussy cat; the latest thing shaking at Exchange Fitness is?
We are putting on a great event called Fitness for Food for a whole week! Free classes with donations to the Harvest Food Bank – just bring an item or donation for each class that you attend November 16 – 21.

So what made you guys “do downtown”?
We were debating different locations and we thought so many people work downtown but have so little time, what if we went down there and offered classes up so people could come in before work, lunchtime or right after work to exercise? Then we were looking around and heard Bikram’s Yoga moved to a bigger space. As they already had showers/change room facilities it seemed to make sense.

And what do you like about your downtown locale?
It’s easily accessible for so many people, no matter where they live in Winnipeg who come in to the downtown area to work, plus the local residents in the Exchange District. I am from Vancouver and used to a vibrant downtown where people live, work and play so I would love to be part of that here.

Okay, now some questions about the future!
Where do you see downtown in the years to come?

A bit like above, I really would love to see the area grow with more residences and also become a place that people stay after work to exercise, go out for dinner, or see shows (sports, music, theatre, film etc).

And what do the cards hold for Exchange Fitness?
As part of a social community supporting fitness, health and wellness; we would love to be not just a place to workout, but also one where people become educated about health through discussions and workshops. We would also like to support the community with fundraisers like Food for Fitness.

Just because we’re cool like that…!
1.3 songs/musicians playing while you work?!
I listen to a variety of music, mostly CBC Radio 2 right now. Like the workouts at Exchange Fitness, never the same twice in a week…lots of variety!

2.If your business was a vehicle, what colour would it be and why?!
Blue, because I like the colour, and perhaps it would seem appropriate here in Winnipeg under the open blue skies. Maybe a hybrid too, as we try to be somewhat environmentally responsible.

3.Best day off from work: Friday or Monday?!
Monday, is a good day to sleep in and relax (but I get up for 6:00am class so I may be biased).

Exchange Fitness is open daily from 6:00am – 8:00pm
