12th ANNUAL EARTH DAY CLEAN-UP SETS NEW GOAL OF REACHING OVER 3,250 POUNDS OF GARBAGE COLLECTED DOWNTOWN

Winnipeg, Manitoba – The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ Earth Day Clean-up will once again coincide with National Earth Day this year on April 21, 2017. The annual event which is part of the BIZ’s overall efforts to clean the downtown area is expected to bring out over 500 business and community members to help clean the downtown streets. Over the past eleven years, the Clean-up has brought out over 3,450 volunteers who have collected over 18,000 pounds of garbage, and this year the BIZ hopes to go beyond the 3,250 pounds collected last year to reach a new downtown milestone.

Local celebrity participants, downtown business workers, residents and anyone interested are all invited to join the BIZ’s Enviro-Team and staff to pick up litter and take part in making a livelier downtown.

“Over the last few years we have seen a significant improvement in downtown cleanliness, thanks to our Enviro-Team and the incredible support of the community,” says Stefano Grande, CEO of the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ. “The everyday front line effort of the Enviro-Team is something I am very proud of and I invite everyone to join them in working towards a more vibrant and healthy downtown.”
