Hanh Pham is a man who knows the balance between business and fashion. Pham opened his own clothing store, Moi Boutique, in March 2006 on Graham Mall, and has loved being able to offer Winnipeggers clothing trends that are usually exclusive to big cities like Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal.
Tucked away in the busy downtown streets, Moi Boutique sits. A small 1000 square foot building filled with vibrant colours and rich designs. Jewelry and purses line the front end of the store and sparkle as the sunlight shines through the large front windows. The entrance way is flooded with one-of- kind dresses, skirts, shirts and jackets, while business suits for both men and women hang from the walls.
Moi Boutique carries a wide range of popular and famous clothing lines for both professional and casual looks fitted for all ages. Trendy brand names such as TeenFlo, Sinequanone, X:S Clothing, 4you, Dekker London, J.C Rags, Haight and Ashbury, and many more can be found there. Moi’s lines of clothing are unique to Winnipeg and are done by designers in Canada, the United States and Europe.
Growing up, Pham said he always knew he wanted to own a boutique. As a young kid Pham said he would spend hours adding decorative details to his own clothing to create an original look. He still uses his flare for fashion and is happy to offer fashion tips to his customers.
Clothing at Moi Boutique mostly targets the early twenty to mid-forties age group and offers professional clothing for work, casual items, and clothing for special occasions. As an added bonus, the boutique also offers in-house alterations.
Pham visits fashion shows and individual manufacturers frequently to make sure his boutique is full of the newest looks for all seasons. While much of the clothing manufacturing industry has shifted to China, Pham is proud of the fact that the majority of the clothing sold at Moi has been sewn locally in Canada, United States or Europe. He insists local designs are made with higher quality materials and are sewn with more precision and care.
Pham knew opening a small independent retail store would bring it’s challenges, and has found the experience even harder than he expected, but he feels blessed with the regular customers who shop at Moi who appreciate what he offers. He said a lot of his customers come from all areas of the city to find something you wouldn’t be able to elsewhere.
Pham is excited to have his store in downtown Winnipeg because he thinks it is important to keep downtown an exciting place to visit. When he is not busy at the boutique, Pham loves to read fashion magazines to learn more about the fashion industry so he can stay one step ahead of mainstream styles.
