Feel like washing down a mega sushi craving with some delicious bubble tea?! Look no further than just west of Colony on Portage Avenue to Sushi 101. Opened in November of 2007, this is the place to go if you want great sushi, reasonable prices, and for all those hard working office people – lunch specials! As an added bonus, Owner Tho Cung opened Bubbletea 101 right next to it in March of 2008; the locale is your one-stop sushi shop!

Now, to dispel those myths of what sushi is made of; Cung wants to let people know that it’s not all raw fish – there are all different kinds of sushi for every taste pallet. From an Avocado roll, to the delightful Teriyaki Chicken or beef rolls, to even a new take on a classic taste – the BLT roll – Sushi 101 has something for even the most novice sushi eaters.

Actually, it’s those special rolls, Cung says, that make Sushi 101 unique. Their fast kitchen staff make great kitchen creations; and with dishes like the Hawaiian roll (mango and avocado) and the fully loaded House Roll 101 (Tuna, salmon, crab meat, scallops, masago, tamago, mayo, avocado, and kaiware) it’s no question you’ll be in for a treat once you’ve sat down to order.

Cung says the environment is also very nice, with fresh food, friendly service and a competitive price. In coming downtown Cung noted that he wanted to experience it’s boom. “[With] Manitoba Hydro coming, MTS Centre and the expanding University of Winnipeg, there’s activity [here]”. He’s confident Sushi 101 is able to compete with other sushi restaurants downtown, especially with their efficient staff and quality product.

Cung see’s his business eventually becoming a combination franchise of a bubble tea and sushi house. When asked what he would like to let people know about Sushi 101 he responded “I want to let people know that we are open! We have a lovely restaurant and we want people to know that. Come try our food…if you come and try and see the environment you will want to come back!”

Sushi 101 is located at 101-500 Portage Avenue and is open Monday to Thursday from 11:00am – 9:00pm, Fridays & Saturdays 11:00am – 10:00pm, and is closed Sundays.
