Out with the old and in with the new, The Ground Floor Urban Diner is cooking up something exceptional just for you! The Ground Floor Urban Diner, formerly Pastels, has been dishing up delights to its patrons since 1989. Things got a lot tastier at the diner in late 2009 when a new chef was hired. Since then, they have been serving up such delights as chicken soup with potsticker dumplings and matzo balls, fresh cut fries or homemade veggie burger, with crispy onions, sautéed portobello mushrooms and sun-dried tomato pesto. The diner features daily lunch specials including Taco Tuesdays, their very popular promotion that may become a Ground Floor staple. They also serve breakfast all day upon request and feature the Urban Burrito, served with shredded hash browns, bacon, local jack and cheddar cheese and two eggs inside a flour tortilla with a side of salsa and sour cream. Conveniently located in the heart of downtown, at 190 Smith Street in the Place Louis Riel hotel, The Ground Floor Urban Diner has seen many cosmetic changes too. It is also now home to the largest collection of aboriginal art by Manitoba’s own Shirley Elias. The Ground Floor supports more than just local artwork. They are proud to say a majority of the products they serve to Winnipeggers and visitors are produced right here in Manitoba, like our famous Pickerel, so there are fewer steps until it gets to your plate. “I really enjoy working in the heart of the city; we have access to a variety of great resources like the Millennium Library and The MTS Centre but nothing beats our city’s spirit,” said manager Jay Finck (pictured). 190 Smith Street Hours of operation are:
