It’s hard to believe that such a small kitchen can fill such big orders. V.J’s Drive Inn has been a well-known and very popular spot to stop for burgers, hot dogs and fries for more than half a century. 2008 marks the 50th year anniversary of V.J’s, formerly known as Junior’s before 1980.

If you are around Main and Broadway, and for some reason you miss the stark white building, just look for a small crowd of people and you will be sure to find V.J’s. Behind the swinging screen door, people of all ages line up in the long, narrow entrance where they wait to place their orders. The food is fast, fresh and best of all, homemade. Everything from peeling potatoes and making burgers to adding special spices to the chili sauce is all done in-house.

Restaurant owner Gus Razos said they prepare and sell up to 5,000 pounds of French fries a week and up to 100 pounds of hamburger daily. All orders are take-out and are packaged into traditional fold-up boxes. Seating is available outdoors during the summer.

Razos said he loves having a downtown location because there are always people walking around. In the future he is hoping to see more buildings and even more people living, working and enjoying downtown.

V.J’s Drive Inn is open from 10am until 1am Thursday to Saturday and 10am to midnight Sunday to Wednesday.
