Bio:
Jaylene is an award-winning singer/songwriter whose quirky pop songs have landed numerous placements for TV (Sony,NBC, CBC), cuts with various independent artists and uses in books and on non-music-related websites. Her third LP, Happiness (with songs produced by Brandon Friesen and Phil Deschambault respectively) is scheduled for a 2009 release. It is a long-awaited follow-up to her WCMA nominated album, Finding Beautiful (2004). She plans to tour in various Canadian centres to support the record.

RWB 70th Anniversary Can-Can Kick Off!

The 2009/10 season marks the 70th anniversary of the RWB and they’re kicking it off in a big way! In the spirit of Moulin Rouge – the ballet that the RWB will present in October at the Centennial Concert Hall, they’ve decided to launch the anniversary year by having a huge can-can kick line outside of the RWB building. Join the RWB dancers, staff and the Winnipeg community in the kick line or watch it all take place and cheer from the sidelines! After the dancing, enjoy cake as we sing Happy 70th Birthday to the RWB. Whether you’re participating or just watching, it’s guaranteed to be a once in a lifetime experience!

Bio:
A little bit gypsy, a little bit soul, a little bit of a lot. Ingrid Gatin makes eclectic beautiful with accordion, piano, vocals, handclaps, footstomps, and tambourine. Cast as one of Winnipeg's up-and-coming singer/songwriter/arrangers, Ingrid is getting ready to take Canada by storm.
Ingrid returned to Winnipeg after a month of intensive songwriting thanks to a grant from the Winnipeg Arts Council and is preparing to let these new works be heard, starting with the Great Lakes Train Tour of Manitoba/Ontario/Québec sponsored by VIA Rail in May.

Bio:
Paper Moon is a female-fronted dynamic pop band from Winnipeg on Endearing Records. They have collaborated with members of Ivy, Nada Surf and the Hermit, has had their music featured in over 20 films and television shows and was nominated for Best Pop Recording at the 2006 Western Canadian Music Awards. Their new CD was released in April, 2009.

MARCO CASTILLO was born in Rio de Janeiro, Capital of Samba in Brazil.
Comfortably settled in his new home of Winnipeg, Marco Castillo has quickly become one of the city’s busiest musicians, bringing his blend of Brazilian music and jazz and funk to audiences in the ‘Peg. Building on the success of the first true Brazilian recording to be done and released in Winnipeg ("Brazilian Season", 2008 - recorded by CBC), Castillo has now established regular gig's on different venues in town, always packed with music fans and musical collaborators.

Dominique Reynolds & the Saboteurs

Bio:
When Dominique Reynolds, former member of the world music group Madrigaia, began a song writing project exploring her Metis and Aboriginal roots, she had no idea where it would take her. In collaborating with Leela Gilday (2007 Juno winner for best aboriginal recording) , Wab Kinew rapper/CBC host/ Sundancer and Ray Coco Stevenson, Pow Wow singer with Eagle and Hawk, Dominique Reynolds discovered her voice as a songwriter had not mellowed through the years. In fact, Dominique is coming into her own in every aspect of her life. Married check, two kids check, trying to have it all check Yes, striking a balance as an artist/mother can be a Tiny Burden., but the only thing you can do with it is to pick it up, carry on and come on back to the war, to quote Leonard Cohen.

This award-winning social justice drama has garnered glowing reviews since its Winnipeg premiere in 2005. The Winnipeg Free Press proclaimed "Strike! Has Important Message For Humanity", declaring "this play would do more to enable the strength of civil discourse than any of the theories of [a] learned academic conference."  The historical musical finds its inspiration in the seminal Winnipeg story: the 1919 Winnipeg General Strike. In addition to a number of regional theatre productions, the musical was recently broadcast as a national radio special in its native Canada and published in book form in December, 2007. A feature film is in pre-production.

Flying Fox and the Hunter Gatherers

Bio:
Flying Fox and the Hunter/Gatherers have steadily worked their way into the Winnipeg music scene since their conception at the Canadian Mennonite University in 2005. A couple of years’ incubation has produced a group with the ability to titillate their audiences using a rich palette of musical sounds. Although their musical niche is difficult to describe, these six classically trained musicians draw from jazz, folk, rock, and funk, while maintaining pop sensibilities. At a Flying Fox show the goal is always a high energy performance that brings the crowd to its feet.

Rik Leaf & Tribe of One

Rik Leaf & Tribe of One thrill audiences with wildly original performances that fuse Indigenous world folk-roots music, First Nation dancers, live action performance painting and spoken word poetry.
Each show features Rik on acoustic & slide guitar, piano, ocarinas and stomp box, and Marie-Josée Dandeneau, a Métis multi instrumentalist on upright/fretless bass, didgeridoo and percussion.

Blues Earth is Winnipeg's Powerhouse Blues band! With influences of R&B and Rock, the Blues is the main ingredient where all influences meet in this unit of exceptional musicians. This 4 or 5 piece band is not even a year old and already has incredible reception and response. The experience behind the players is confidently displayed, and the collaboration of the vastly influenced members creates a genuine delivery of a new sound.

"Her voice is sweet!" (The Uniter)
Katie Murphy's pop with shades of roots and soul has struck a chord with her growing audience. Since the release of her acclaimed solo debut A Nest in a Box in 2006, Katie has toured from BC to Ontario, was chosen to showcase at NXNE 2008 as well as RedGorilla MusicFest 2009 in Austin, Texas, and has become a local favourite in her hometown of Winnipeg. Before recording her own album, Katie collaborated with Toronto producers Version Xcursion: their song Pushing Flowers went to #1 on the CBC Galaxie Radio charts in 2006.
