Volunteers and staff gain excellent experience, skills and training for a career in law enforcement or customer service. Many former Watch ambassadors are now serving with the Winnipeg Police Service and police services in other cities, Provincial and Federal Corrections, RCMP, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, Border Patrol, and Parks Canada.

Korbin Sampson, Winnipeg Police Service
Former Watch Ambassador

"Volunteering with the Downtown BIZ was an excellent stepping stone into the Winnipeg Police Service. The training I received and the various situations I encountered helped prepare me for a career in law enforcement."

Trevor Myshrall, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service
Former Watch Ambassador Supervisor

"I worked for the Watch for 3 1/2 years and it was truly an inspirational experience."

"Working for the Downtown Watch Program assisted me by developing a number of important qualities that were required for my career. I was able to work through situations that exercised and challenged my interpersonal, problem solving, and critical thinking skills, to name a few.

As a Paramedic one of the best qualities you can posses is the ability to communicate with people in less than favourable situations. So with that said, walking the downtown community and dealing with a variety of people all day was a great asset to have while entering my career.

This program was a remarkable steppingstone into the Emergency Services field. I would recommend this program to anyone who would like to gain professional development in a friendly and top quality organization."

Corey Dreger, Personal Banking Officer
Former Watch Volunteer

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your organization for the chance to gain exposure to downtown Winnipeg and all of its elements. As well as the experience, however challenging at times and fun it has been, to work within an
organization that encompasses the traits of teamwork and partnership
similar to those I may one day encounter as a police officer."
