ARTISTIC BIKE RACKS UNVEILED ON BROADWAY - Jul. 07, 2008

The Downtown BIZ and the Winnipeg Arts Council invite media representatives to join the organizers and artists in celebrating the launch of the new artist-designed bike racks on Broadway! The launch will be held Thursday, July 3 at 12 noon on the boulevard on Broadway at Donald Street (near the Fyxx and Starbucks). < more >

Winnipeggers to start digging rapid transit - Jul. 03, 2008

Ordinary Winnipeggers are becoming impatient with delays to construction of the first transitway as envisioned in the City of Winnipeg’s approved rapid transit plan. On Friday, July 4th, 2008 at 12:30pm, members of the Winnipeg Rapid Transit Coalition and other rapid transit supporters will take out their spades to begin digging Winnipeg’s first dedicated transitway, with corresponding commuter cycling path, close to Confusion Corner and the Osborne Street underpass. < more >

200 BLUE LOONIES TO BE GIVEN AWAY BY BIG BLUE LOONIE MASCOT AT AIR CANADA PARK - Jun. 16, 2008

A big, round Blue Loonie mascot will be out on downtown streets this summer giving away Easy Streets™ Blue Loonie coins to promote the program to save on downtown parking and transportation. Year two of the Downtown BIZ’s “Blue Loonie Mondays” kicks off on Monday, June 16th at noon at Air Canada Park. < more >

CHESS IN THE PARK IS BACK! EVERY FRIDAY THIS SUMMER, STARTING JUNE 6 AT NOON - Jun. 04, 2008

For the third year in a row, a giant chessboard will once again come to life in downtown’s revitalized Merchant Park on Portage Avenue. The Downtown BIZ will kick off the third year of Chess in the Park this Friday, June 6, from noon to 2pm. The Manitoba Chess Association will hold a chess tournament, while the public can try out the larger-than-life sized chess pieces. < more >

BIZ TO TURN ON SWITCH OF PORTAGE LIGHTING DEMO AT HISTORIC PORTAGE BUILDING ON MAY 29 - May. 26, 2008

The first building on Portage Avenue will be lit up on Thursday, May 29, at dusk as part of the Portage Avenue Lighting Plan. The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ and property owner Paul Walsh will turn on the switch to highlight their historic building following a presentation by urban lighting expert Gilles Arpin at 8:30pm at Edmonton Court in Portage Place. < more >

KIDS’ ARTWORK ON DISPLAY IN DOWNTOWN EXHIBIT - Apr. 22, 2008

School children are adding a splash of colour to downtown with the launch of the 16th annual Young Artists on the Avenue exhibition on Wednesday, April 23 from noon to 1:40 p.m. at IMAX Theatre, 3rd Floor, Portage Place. The display runs until June 11 showcasing artwork from 20 different schools at 20 locations. < more >

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ has expanded our annual spring clean-up from one to two days. Over 130 area business people will hit the streets for a Spring Clean-up on Thursday, April 17 and Friday, April 18, from 2pm to 4:30pm. < more >
